Fashion Police!! Gah - I can't believe I even said it but...

Today I saw a sight that should make most people cringe.

I saw an otherwise breathtaking Tunisian girl/woman - all curves, long dark hair and green eyes; it's a wonderfully shocking combination - wearing black indoor soccer cleats, white sport socks, then black fishnet stockings followed by beige capris... I couldn't stop looking. It was like a train wreck. And I don't even tend to notice fashion. It was incredible, it was like a guy showing up in drag for a republican convention, it was like watching a sk8er boi getting up on stage to belt out Wagner, it was like that guy who jumped into the Athens Olympic pool in a pink tutu... It was bad bad bad.

Hello from Korea!
First of all I would like to say that it's really exciting to hear that you're having such a good time together experiencing everything that you are.
After having been informed of the decision to start this adventure by Denis and Susan some months ago, I decided to see for myself what you two were up to. Certainly glad I did! It's been a blast perusing the Letourneau Chronicles!!
After having just passed the 2 year mark in Korea, I'm remembering the first impressions Korea indelibly printed, the randomness and the fun of living in a foreign country during my first 6 months. And it really hasn't ceased to be any less random or fun, although, these days, I can't remember all the strange things that happen to me day to day unless I write them down....
Now, to the point of this correspondance!
I couldn't help but hold my sides in laughter whilst reading the description of the lovely lady in the fishnets and sneakers...o my o my...if I had a nickel for everytime I saw the fishnets....Korea has a twist though and the trends here are uniformly tacky. That is to say everyone is wearing over-the-knee 4inch hooker boots which come in every colour and shape and are paired with delicate, feminine(innocent) angora sweaters decorated with broaches, long strings of beads(often pearls)a wool skirt and a jean-jacket. Then as glasses are meant to add a certain amount of intellect to the wearer(it is thought to be a great amount...)they are also added. One should note that they are usually reasonably unflattering. Top that with a corduroy hat, copious amounts of makeup...and we're off to work, University etc. for the day.I can imagine that Tunisian girl/woman and 80% of the Korean girls/women having a fabulous time shopping together.

Perhaps that is one of the only similarities between the countries we're living in at the moment...the other is the ever-present military... everywhere..and the fact that, as a developing country, Korea is in a constant state of change with the transitions being very tortuous and that being evident for all to see!
Perhaps it's time to jet. Hope alls well and looking forward to tomorrow's chronicle entry:) Sweet dreams.
Janece in Seoul
